Announcing the “The 8 Trill Pils Grant” by Crowns & Hops Brewing Co supported by Brewdog recipients for 2020! The grant program offered a total of a $100,000 that was awarded to 5 Black-owned craft beer businesses, to provide financial support in the areas of business development, growth and sustainability.

what is the”8 trill pils initiative”?

An initiative dedicated to achieving Racial Equity in the craft beer industry.

WHY THE NAME “8 TRILL PILS”?

The name “8 Trill Pils” is named after a statistic from a report produced by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, “Business Case for Racial Equity”. In the report, they suggest that the U.S. stands to realize an $8 trillion gain in the national GDP by closing the racial equity gap by 2050. The report explains that by closing the gap in the major ‘pillars’ of productivity – Healthcare, Education, Criminal Justice, Housing and Employment/Entrepreneurship – society can start to realize a substantial impact on productivity and ultimately quality of life.

what are the (3) pillars of the “8 trill pils initiative”?

  • THE HUB: 8TrillPils.org -  A craft beer resource that connects Black-owned craft beer brands with industry leaders for development and foundational support in various areas of business (i.e. finances, facilities for brewing, marketing, legal, etc.)

  • THE FUND: The “8 Trill Pils Fund” is an $100,000 development fund supported by BrewDog, that will be awarded to several Black-owned craft beer brands to provide financial support in the areas of business specific to development, growth and sustainability. Applications submissions will be open on Sept 21st, 2020.

  • THE MOVEMENT: Tuesday, September 8th, Crowns & Hops will release the ‘8 Trill Pils’ Pilsner, supported by BrewDog. The beer will be brewed and released in (3) countries: U.S. (Inglewood, CA, Columbus, OH), U.K. (Ellon, Scotland) & Germany (Berlin). ALL the profits from the beer will be donated to organizations in all (3) countries focused on driving Racial Equity.

how can I take action:

  1. On Tuesday, Sept 8th, we ask that our partners, industry leaders and craft beer lovers PURCHASE, POST & PUSH about 8 Trill Pils, driving international awareness toward building and maintaining a Racially Equitable society. 

  2. Craft beer industries leaders can make a pledge committing to assist Blacked-owned craft beer brands in the “business of beer” through resources and additional funding.
